Dr. Ratna Magotra is a practicing paediatric cardiac surgeon at Smt. S. R. Mehta & Sir K. P. Cardiac Institute in Mumbai. Ratna Magotra did her M.B.B.S. from Delhi University and earned her post-graduate degree of M.S. in General Surgery and M.S. in Cardio Thoracic Surgery from Bombay University. She received overseas training at Guy's Hospital in London and Texas Heart Institute in Houston, USA, specializing in Adult and Paediatric Cardiac Surgery. She was the head of the Department of Cardio-Vascular Surgery at the G. S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital and opted for early retirement in 2000, after having made substantial contributions to making the CVTS department as one of the top ten in the country. She has occupied several positions in the academic field and on selection boards at several universities in the country. She has been actively associated with the Foundation of the Medical Research, Sane Guruji Manav Seva Sangh in Amrawati and is currently on the Board of Gram Seva Trust, Gujarat. Having had a brilliant academic career, she was recognized with National Merit Scholarship and several awards, most noteworthy being Americares India's Spirit of Humanity award in Cardiovascular Surgery Category (2011), K.N. Dastur Oration (2010), Special Award of Appreciation for Contributions to Rural Surgery (1999), Dr. Jal R. Vakil Memorial Award (1994) and Special prize from Nehru Foundation, New Delhi for Academic Achievements (1979). She is passionate about Rural Health Care in India, Paradoxes in Health Care in India and Socio-political or current affairs.
