Mr. B.G. Deshmukh
Chairman

Mr. B. G. Deshmukh joined the IAS in 1951 and was the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister from 1989 to 1990 and Cabinet Secretary from August 1986 to March 1989. He was also Chief Secretary, Maharashtra; Chairman, Governing Board of International Labour Organization; Secretary, Labour & Rehabilitation, Govt. of India; Additional Secretary, Ministry of Home
Affairs, Govt. of India; Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai; Secretary to Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

After retirement from Government service, he has been affiliated as Director/Chairman of various organizations like Tatas, SEBI, IDBI, Natural History Society, AGNI, PRAJA, CASP, etc.

He has jotted down his experiences as Cabinet Secretary in his books named 'A Cabinet Secretary Thinks Aloud'; 'A Cabinet Secretary Looks Around'; 'Poona to Prime Minister's Office - A Cabinet Secretary Looks Back' - An Autobiography. He has also written numerous articles in newspapers on socio-economic and political matters.

Mr. J.F. Ribeiro
Executive Chairman

Mr. J. F. Ribeiro joined the IPS in 1953 and rose to be the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai from 1982 to 1985. He was Director General - Central Reserve Police, Director General of Police - Gujrat, Special Secretary to the Govt. of India's Home Ministry, Director General of Police - Punjab and finally Advisor to the Governor of Punjab. He was awarded the "Padma Bhushan" in 1987 by the Govt. of India, besides several others.

Post retirement, he was appointed Ambassador to Romania, where he served for four years from 1989 to 1993. After that, he has devoted his time for social activities. He heads many social and charitable organizations like Mohalla Ekta Committee, Happy Home & School for the Blind, Bombay; Mothers & Children Welfare Trust.

Mr. Ribeiro is the Governor's nominee on the Senate of the SNDT University, Mumbai; member of the Union Home Minister's Council for Communal Harmony, member of the Governing Council of the National Police Academy, Hyderabad and member of the Advisory Council of the Central Vigilance Commission.

He also contributes regularly to the local newspapers and has authored a book 'Bullet For Bullet' about his experience in the police force.

Mr. Dara Gandhy
Managing Trustee

Mr. Dara Gandhi is a retired businessman. He worked as General Manager, Marketing & Sales of an international Trading/Agency Company which was largely responsible for converting the Indian Auto Tubes market from Natural Rubber tubes to Butyl tubes which ensure substantial fuel economy. He is also a founder trustee of "Friends of Moral Re-Armament (India)" Trust.

Dr. R. K. Anand
Trustee

Dr. R. K. Anand, M.D.[Pediatrics), F.R.C.P. (Edinburgh), D.C.H. (London) served as Medical Director and Senior Pediatrician of Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai. He is an internationally recognized pediatrician and was honoured with the Fellowship of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics and the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, for his contributions in the field of pediatric education, research and
child care. He worked as professor of pediatrics at the T. N. Medical College and B. Y. L. Nair Charitable Hospital, Mumbai.

He has been advisor and resource person for child care programmes for international organizations like UNICEF, Consumers International, International Baby Food Action Network, World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action and Health Action International. He is also the founder President of the Association for Consumers' Action on Safety and Health.

Mr. Satish Sahney
Trustee

Mr. Satish Sahney joined IPS in 1963. He served as Commissioner of Police at Thane and Greater Mumbai, Special I.G.P. of C.I.D. (Crime), Maharashtra. He has served in Central Police Organizations like the Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force and Central Bureau of Investigation. He was also Superintendent of Police in six districts of Maharashtra.

He has been awarded the President's Police Medal for distinguished service, Indian Police Medal for meritorious service and the Kathin Seva Medal.

After retiring from Indian Police Service, he has been working as Chief Executive of the Nehru Centre since 1997. He was also a member of the Reserve Bank of India Advisory Board on Bank Frauds and a Chairman of the Committee appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to Review compulsory in-service training of IPS officers.

Mr. R. H. Mendonca
Trustee

Mr. R. H. Mendonca joined IPS in 1966. He was Director General of Police, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Maharashtra. As Additional Director General of Police, he headed the Maharashtra State C.I.D. Crime Dept. and also handled Law and Order, Maharashtra.


He worked as Commissioner of Police in Mumbai, Thane and Nagpur. He also worked as Director and Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, Govt. of Maharashtra. He has also served as Superintendent of Police in five districts of Maharashtra.

He is an awardee of the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service. He was also the member of the Civil Service Reforms Committee, Govt. of India (Hota Committee).

After retirement from Indian Police Service, he has been associated with Mohalla Committee Movement Trust (MCMT), Mumbai, Anti-Corruption Vigilence Cell, Indian Merchant Chamber, Mumbai, Action for Good Governance and Networking in India (AGNI), Mumbai.

Ms. Nandini Sardesai
Trustee

Ms. Nandini Sardesai is a sociologist who has done her Ph.D. in 'Sociology of Sports' after completing her M.A. from S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai. She was Head of the Sociology Dept., St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, and also professor, research associate and teacher in various educational institutes.

She is a member of the Advisory Board of Dignity Foundation, representative of Maharashtra Women's Commission on the Consumer Complaints Council of the Advertising Standards Council of India, Visiting Professor of St. Xavier's College, Jai Hind College and K. C. College, member of the Censor Board of Film Certification and member of Anti-Corruption Cell - Indian Merchant Chamber.

She is actively involved in issues of social concern and has consequently established a network at all levels of society.

Mr. Narayan Verma
Trustee

Mr. Narayan Varma is an activist for the Right to Information Act. He is a practicing Chartered Accountant since 1956 and a graduate of Bombay University. He is now a member of Managing Committee of Bombay Chartered Accountants' Society, the Editorial Board of Bombay Chartered Accountant Journal, Editorial Board of "Income tax review" and the Direct
Taxation Committee of Indian Merchants' Chamber. He is a joint author of many books published by Bombay Chartered Accountants' Society.

In the past, he was the local representative of the Experiment in International Living and member of its National Council. He led the group of 150 youth from India to USA in 1966, and in 1962 represented Experiment India at International Congress in Italy.

Mr. Narayan Varma is at present Deputy World Chairman and Member of the Central Council of Giants International.
