| CASE STUDY I – Money Returned |
|
Mr. Siddiqui had invested in Post Office Monthly Income Scheme. After his demise in Nov 2005 his widow was entitled to claim the capital amount, along with interest. “Deposit submission of all forms, the Vile Parle Post Office insisted on our getting “Clearance ” from the HO at Dn Nagar, Andheri. The latter first refused stating, they “cannot give the nominees name,” subsequently okayed the name and said they would send the papers to the Mira Road PO, who said they did not receive it and we should check at Virar PO, and so it went on for 10 months.”Finally, Mrs Siddiqui filed an RTI application requesting “progress made on the claim form and who were the officers supposed to take Action on the subject and within how many days should the money be refunded technically.”
Within 10 days of filing the application, Mrs siddiqui got her cheque!

| FLAT TRANSFER |
I have got my flat transferred in my name after using RTI Act twice.
Firstly, when I approached MHADA for the name transfer of my flat they made me run from top to bottom and did not co-operate with me. Then I made the use of RTI Act to know my legal dues with MHADA which they were not providing me earlier.
The use of RTI Act not only helped in knowing the legal dues but also expedited the transfer procedure. I paid my dues and waited for the Regularisation and Final letter from MHADA. But the officials of the Board (MHADA) once again delayed my transfer process by asking for additional documents.
After that I made use of the RTI Act for the second time and asked for the present stage of action taken in my case (transfer) and the number of days it will take for the transfer to be done. The Co-operative Cell Dept. immediately provided me the Regularisation Letter and after some days, the Final letter, without asking for any other documents!!
Finally, the transfer was done after six months. Thus, the use of Right To Information Act has helped me to get the flat transferred to my name.
I have also taken up a fight against the incompetent MHADA officials and recently I have made a Second Appeal to the Chief Information Commissioner to penalize the P.I.O. of the Co-operative Cell Dept., M.B.R. & R. Board (MHADA) for providing me the information under RTI Act after 111 days. Later on, I will make more appeals to the Chief Information Commissioner against MHADA officials for making a mockery of the RTI Act as they have provided me the information late under the RTI Act four times.
All the above has given me lots of encouragement and I have self-motivated myself to bring some positive changes and betterment in society and plan to consistency work for that BY USING RTI Act.
