Royal Western India Turf Club (R.W.I.T.C.)

The lungs of South-Central Mumbai - the 226 sprawling acres of open space that is the Mahalaxmi Race Course is under severe threat from developers. In response to this threat, PCGT filed a Public Interest Litigation against the parties involved.
In 2004 RWITC entered into an agreement to develop the racecourse land with Pegasus Developers. This is a blatant attempt to commercially exploit public land.
On July 14, 2004, in response to the PIL filed by PCGT and after hearing all parties, the court imposed restraining orders on three counts : (1) Government is restrained from registering the lease between BMC and RWITC; (2) Both BMC and the government are restrained from allowing any development of Turf Club lands and (3) No plans or applications for development can be sanctioned. The deal was stopped by the High Court and the RWITC later abandoned its plan, thereby giving lung space to the citizens of Mumbai.

One of the activities of PCGT is spreading awareness on the Right To Information (R.T.I.) Act. PCGT firmly believes that RTI is the most powerful weapon in the fight against corruption. PCGT is spearheading this task by working with schools and colleges, community groups, women self-help groups, corporates and media to spread the importance of Right To Information and also assist willing people to use this weapon. So far PCGT has organized a lot of Seminars/workshops on RTI awareness in which thousands of people participated and benefitted. PCGT, along with other organizations, also actively took part in the National Level Anti-Bribery Campaign which was simultaneously organized in more than 20 cities of India. In the Mumbai Campaign 252 PCGT volunteers put in 2016 hours and facilitated the filing of 2222 cases in 15 days.
